The official site of Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce (North America). The Dynasty Warriors franchise has become stagnant as of late. Incomprehensible storylines and simplistic combat mechanics make it increasingly difficult to get interested in the series' aging formula. While Strikeforce doesn't address all of these problems, it incorporates a good multiplayer experience and a number of new features that make it significantly more engaging than many of its predecessors. As a result, this Dynasty Warriors game will strike a chord for some newcomers without alienating the series faithful. Like previous entries in the series, Strikeforce is set in the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China when three factions waged war for control of the land. After choosing your kingdom and character, you're dropped into a town to prepare for battle against the Yellow Turbans, a religious extremist group inciting rebellion across the continent. Because each mission is presented a la carte from a simple menu system, there is little emphasis on story. Each faction has five chapters of these story missions, and between each chapter, you'll be fed more exposition through perfunctory voice-overs.
This is where it all started. The original Final Fantasy appeared on the Famicom in Japan 20 years ago and reached American shores three years later. Since then, it has appeared on a variety of systems, most recently as part of Final Fantasy I &II: Dawn of Souls on the Game Boy Advance. As a piece of nostalgia, Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition is a decent romp through a true classic, where random encounters rule and fetch quests are a way of life. If you haven't played it yet and can set aside modern expectations, you'll probably get a kick out of the earliest Final Fantasy game. On the other hand, if you have played it on another platform, there aren't enough extras here to make it worth another purchase, especially for a $30 price tag. The visuals are the obvious enhancement, and at least in this regard, FF lovers won't be disappointed. Backgrounds and characters are rendered in crisp, colorful detail. Some small touches are bound to catch your eye, such as the shadows of passing clouds moving across your view. Of particular note are the new boss designs: Marilith has never looked so gruesome. It's still the same 2D look.

007: Racing for PlayStati by Electronic Arts, Inc., Eutechnyx Limited. In 007 Racing you can get behind the wheel of James Bond's car. You must complete missions which range from collecting something and getting out alive to much harder and complicated things. Your car is armed with many weapons including mines, rockets, lasers, smokescreens, and more. Then, if you get bored playing by yourself you can eliminate your opponent in multiplayer missions where you have to destroy the other car, or a game mode called "Pass the Bomb", where you must pass the bomb to the other car by touching it before you blow up. 007's varied scenery-from the streets of New York to the jungle roads of Mexico-is detailed and moves smoothly as you speed by, but the screen is often blurry with pixels. It's a breeze to control your vehicles-including the Aston Martin DB5 and BMW Roadster-yet some objectives are tedious and frustrating, such as setting multiple limpet mines in precise locations within a time limit. 007 Racing offers mild fun that will appeal for sure only to gamers who love both Bond and action-driving games
Sequel to Namco's groundbreaking PSX combat flight simulator. Ace Combat 2 puts you back in the cockpit as a mercenary pilot out to foil a world-threatening terrorist plot. You'll proceed through 30 missions in which your success will allow you to buy weapon upgrades, parts and other gimmicks just like in the original. AC2 offers sharper graphics and sounds, more planes and options, dual shock support as well as adding a much-needed analog joystick support. While it's not a game you'll play over &over forever (even though I did), it has enough replay value to make it worth your money. This game is a great example of what a sequel should be. Everything was improved from graphics to story line. And if you don't believe me, go to your rental store and pick the "darn" thing up!
You are an ace fighter pilot who works for an organization called "UPEO". The player has to accomplish various missions, from taking out a special aircraft carrier, to taking out enemy satellite systems in orbit around earth. The player can earn ratings from A to D. The higher the rating, the higher the chance that the player can acquire new kinds of planes. The game has many enviroments. From normal arial missions to Stratospereric missions and even outer space missions. Once you understand the controls of the game, they're amazingly easy to use and very intuitive. The HUD with its virtual horizon and whatnot is invaluable, as is the little pointer to your next target. AC3 does everything necessary to make people who aren't even into the genre enjoy the game, from tight controls to cool menus. Sure, you may get frustrated at first by the way the beginning planes handle, but in the end you're going to be having an absolute blast. Pick this game up if the genre interests you, and if not, at least give it a rental. You may enjoy it despite yourself.

Actua Golf is a golf simulation with full 3D terrain and characters. It comes with two courses to play at (country and tropical), customisable characters and multi-view shot tracking and action replays. Actua Golf uses similar game controls as older golf titles did. With a swing meter, where you have to time correctly to hit the ball right. The game features two difficulties and various game modes such as foursome, fourball challenge and skins. Commentary in the game is provided by Tony Adamson, Pat O'Brien and Peter Aliss. Absolute Playstation: I was a little unsure of the credibility that Actua Golf boasted but apart from the odd problem with opponents taking multiple shots, this turned out to be a thoroughly playable golf game. The competition format is an excellent idea where you cannot enter a Pro Tour until your golfer becomes a scratch player which adds to the lastability of the game. The game plays similar to PGA Golf and includes a similar environment but if I had to choose between the two I would say that the honors were even.
Actua Golf 3 is a golf simulation game featuring eight courses. You can completely customize your own character. With a new character you start with amateur tournaments until you have removed your handicap. Then you can participate in the pro tournaments. To hit the ball in this game the player will have to use his analogue stick and swing that much like a real club. The game features commentary by Peter Alliss and Alex Hay. Absolute Playstation: Golfing games in the past have had so little to do with the popular sport that takes place on the greens and fairways all across the world. Anyone who has thrown a golf club down in anger will tell you that accurately striking a small white ball with a thin metal stick is a little more difficult than pressing a joypad button three times in succession. Gremlin have finally cracked it by implementing a new control system that allows the club to be swung using an analog stick. It works a treat and actually feels as if you are swinging through that ball. If Actua Golf was a Par and Actua Golf 2 a Birdie, then Actua Golf 3 is definitely an Eagle.

July 11, 2008 - I usually like to start off my reviews by creating a clever pun out of the game's title to introduce or briefly summarize how I feel about said game. But to take a line out of Alone in the Dark's dialogue, '**** it,' this game sucks. For anyone left in the dark about Alone in the Dark (ok, so maybe I still snuck a pun in there), the survival-horror game takes players through the monster-infested streets of New York. You begin the game by waking up from a daze. As with a lot of clichéd stories nowadays, your character starts out with a bad case of amnesia. You don't know who you are, or where you came from. All you know is that you are being held captive by dangerous and mysterious men. After you orient yourself with the slightly awkward controls, you will escape their clutches only to come across a dicier scenario. For reasons unknown, zombies, freaky bats, huge spiders, and more scary creatures begin to unearth themselves.
Alone In The Dark Become the exclusive detective, Edward Carnby, embarking on a super-sleuthing quest to rescue a Kidnapped child. One-eyed jack ringleader of the wretched commands his legion of immortal pirates to thwart Carnby's every move. Mazes, trapdoors and secret passageways loom in the shadows as the mystery deepens. Nerves of steel and quick thinking are the only solution to keep the terrifying depths of disaster at bay!
